Dorlene Love started sometime in the beginning of the 21:st century. Initially as party band without any ambitions whatsoever. We were originally called Darlene Love, like the singer of course, we thought it was a beautiful and cool name for a punk band to have in a kind of anti-punk way. But somebody spelled it wrong with an O instead. Anyway, at this point the band consisted of Jonne ‘Flash” on Guitar, K. Ming on bass, Toro on drums and Ragnar Mujahedin on vox. We played wild three chord punk and gained a slight cult reputation due to entertaining and disastrous live performances.
We played lots of shitty venues around sweden, had a brilliant time and released a bunch of DIY CD-R EP:s of varying quality and style, Grande Familia Katastrofe in 2003, which was a hilarious 4 track recording, roughly mixed as hell and probably only burned in 50 to 100 ex, now sold out. This is when we famously bounced down all tracks to two channels in order to get two free tracks for the ‘party takes’ where everybody is drinkin, screamin and making noise in the background. Then came Vivo Scandale in 2004. This was probably made in 50 ex and had the legendary sandpaper sleeve so that it would scratch other CD’s when put into the shelf. Sold out of course. Did a couple more EP’s as well that we can’t remember the name of. We were on hiatus quite often as band members found it difficult to stay in Stockholm for any longer period of time.
A lot of busking and travelling made the global folk influences – following a musical nomad trail that ranges over north africa, spain, the balkans, turkey & east europe all the way up to finland & sweden – become a more prominent feature in our music.
In 2006 Walter joined on accordion, and then Felicia on Percussion. All band members were living more permanently in Stockholm and we started to get our act together and actually rehearse and develop a more nomadic folk punk sound. More gigs started to drop in, we did a couple of gigs in Madrid and played Peace & Love festival for the first time.
Our debut album Exile Deluxe was finally released on the legendary swedish punk label Birdnest Records in 2008. TV shows, media coverage, some radio time, gigs, festivals, as well as some nice reviews and awful reviews followed. Since then we’ve done a couple of tours in Holland, the big and small festivals and most venues around Sweden.
In 2009 Dolores joined on trumpet. K Ming left the band and Tomo joined in on bass. We are currently workin on new material.... soon we will be in a town near you!
